Questions people ask
What did the 2026/27 NHS pay award change?
The Pay Review Body's recommended 3.3% consolidated uplift was accepted in full and applies to all Agenda for Change pay points in England from 1 April 2026. Most trusts paid the new rates from June or July 2026 with arrears back to April.
Which band and step am I on?
Your band is in your contract; your step depends on years in the band. New starters join at the entry step and progress to the top step after a pay-step review — typically 2 years in bands 2–3, 3 years in band 5, and 5 years in bands 6 and above.
How does part-time NHS pay work?
Agenda for Change full time is 37.5 hours. Your salary scales by hours worked — set your hours in the calculator and the tax is worked out on your actual pay, not the full-time figure. High Cost Area Supplements (London weighting) are added on top of these national rates.
Why doesn't this include my NHS Pension deduction?
NHS Pension contributions (5.2%–12.5% by pay tier) use a net-pay arrangement the engine adds in v1.1. Until then, salary-sacrifice mode with your tier percentage gives a close approximation — it applies the right tax relief but slightly overstates the NI saving.
